Do You Know What’s Going on in a Programmer’s Head?

This article may be useful for programmers, their relatives, and all sympathizers. In it we will consider the distinctive features of the emotional and cognitive spheres of programmers who have dedicated themselves to communicating with machines in the language of machines.

Many observers admit that such communication has a strong influence on the personality of the programmer. As a psychologist who often communicates with programmers and writes programs, I would like to detail and generalize such observations.

Let’s start with the fact that language and thinking are interconnected phenomena.

In childhood, when we learn to speak, we learn to think. Words are signs that we replace real objects with to carry out various operations with them. We can do this orally, on paper, in our minds.

Formation of concepts

In general, behind every word, there is a concept. It is the concept of a certain logical image of objects. It is convenient to understand a concept by observing how concepts are formed.

Let’s imagine a child discovering the world. He no longer sucks on a pacifier but has long been drinking from cups…
